From the rise of Y2K Fashion to Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie, Barbie was the underlying style muse of the year. (Hot) Pink was a recurring colour in fashion. With the introduction of Barbiecore aesthetics amongst Gen Z especially after an image of Margot Robbie in a pink-clad the search for all things pink skyrocketed 416%
SHOE OF THE YEAR- BIRKENSTOCK'S BOSTON CLOGS
The Birkenstock’s Clogs is fast becoming the defining shoe of the post-pandemic fashion. A favourite amongst many celebrities and influencers like Kendall Jenner, Dakota Johnson. The clogs are becoming a rare commodity after it went viral on TikTok with searches up to 593% within the first six months of 2022.
SCREEN STYLE MOMENT OF THE YEAR
After the fifth season hit of The Crown, the series have introduced Princess Diana as a fashion icon to a new generation with more than 101.7M views for videos tagged with the hashtag #revengedress on TikTok.
VIRAL MOMENT OF THE YEAR
The Parisian brand Coperni collaborated with Fabrican to spray paint a dress on Bella Hadid live on the runway using innovative spray-on fabric technology developed by Spanish scientist and fashion designer Manel Torres. This went viral all over social media, especially TikTok with over 1M views for #copernidress videos.
PROGRESSIVE MOMENT OF THE YEAR
Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard made the bold and impactful decision to transfer his ownership of the company which is valued around $3 billion to the Patagonia Purpose Trust in September. A non-profit organisation created to ensure all of its profits are used to combat climate change.
POWER DRESSER OF THE YEAR
Bella Hadid was certainly the most powerful and influential dresses of 2022, leading the Y2K craze if she wore it, you wanted it. over the past 12 months she drove for search items such as cargo trousers, corsets, ear muffs and made the ultra mini Ugg boots go viral on TikTok making them sell out instantly.
TIKTOK AESTHETIC OF THE YEAR
This year TikTok continued to influence fashion choices and trends, this year especially saw the ‘weird girl’ aesthetic from creators like @tinyewishgirl showing mixing patterns and textures by experimenting. Taking on inspiration from various ‘core’ aesthetics, taking maximalism to a new level. The aesthetic capitalises on the 90’s nostalgia.
