Streetwear for women featured image

Fashion Inspiration | Streetwear for Women

There is no denying that the street style culture and movement has gotten more popular in both the mainstream and luxury fashion sphere. However, the style and culture as a whole is still heavily marketed and dominated by male consumers. Women across the world have voiced their frustration by the lack of female friendly shoe sizes in both GR and exclusive shoe drops. For example, the Off-White and Nike Air Jordan 4 “Sail” are only available in men’s sizing – which would have been fine if I wasn’t a size 5. Other well-known streetwear brands such as Supreme BAPE are generally targeted towards a male audience.

Given that street style is often associated with males, I wanted to focus this week’s blog post on some of my favourite female street style icons. Below I have put together some of my favourite looks and curated a range of products that match the vibe of the fit. I’m personally a huge fan of the street style aesthetic because of how versatile it is. When I say it’s a style of dressing that really anyone can embrace, I truly mean it. I know that street style isn’t for everyone, but if you’re wanting to experiment with a new style or get some inspiration for your own street look, start by checking out some of these outfits! After you have checked out the outfits we have in store for you, click this link to go to another female street style article for 2022 at Nylon.

Sue Bird

Firstly, we cannot talk about streetwear for women without mentioning Sue Bird (pictured on the left). I love how she keeps most of her outfit simple but chooses to be bold with her colours and accessories. Oh and of course you’ve got to finish the outfit with a killer pair of kicks. For this look I wanted to replicate what she did by having a relatively minimal outfit but adding bolder pieces like the statement socks and bracelets.

Rihanna

To me, Rihanna’s look is a fusion of a classic street style but with a feminine touch. Since it’s summer, I went with a slightly warmer colour palette for the whole outfit. To build layers and add depth to the outfit, you could also tie a shirt around your waist to achieve that ultimate street look.

Yoon Ahn

As street style grows in popularity, we are seeing more luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton and Dior collaborating with well known streetwear brands. This fusion has triggered a new movement in the luxury fashion market, a lot of high-end designers are blending streetwear with their luxury pieces. Yoon Ahn (pictured above) who is is the creative director of Ambush is well-known for mixing street and luxury style together. While the colours of this outfit are relatively simple, she chooses to mix things up by playing with different textures and of course she has to finish it off with a pair of Nikes.

Tinashe

If you’re like me and you’re not that bold when it comes to prints, then starting off simple and rocking some camo might be a good start. Whenever I think of camo print for some reason Tinashe always comes to mind, she usually keeps the rest of her fit simple but makes a statement with a camo print. I will admit that I probably purchased my first camo jacket back in 2017 because of her! Since most of the sneakers on this blog have been Nikes, we can’t do a streetwear blog without including some Vans can we?
