Description

In celebration of the enduring joy of taking tea, Fortnum’s has brought together one of the world’s best ceramicists, Spode, and internationally-renowned artist Paul Scott to create the Gardens of Lyra collection. The original fine bone china producer, Spode is a brand steeped in British heritage – with a magnificent 250 year history in ceramics. Whilst Cumbrian-based artist Dr Paul Scott’s characteristic blue and white glazed ceramic artworks have earned him a global reputation. Designed exclusively for Fortnum & Mason, Gardens of Lyra takes inspiration from tea plantations around the world and their surrounding landscapes. Beautifully collaged and cloned visuals of the transferware pattern found in Spode’s extensive archive are depicted throughout this mythical collection. These original engravings carry feint scratches, marks or ‘blemishes’ in their surface, which when printed are realised in delicate lines and fading graphics, a kind of beauty only bestowed by repeated use and the passage of time. Simple, yet intricately detailed, this fine bone china mug will bring elegance to every teatime experience.
