The only universal language in the world is food. No matter religion, language or race, food brings people together. It isn’t an expression that can be interpreted in one single way, it’s a feeling. If you live in London, you are visiting or are here for a short transit, make sure you stop by one of the 5 best Restaurants in London.

For the Group of Friends that Love a Relaxed Sunday:

Nothing feels more comforting than eating a home cooked meal, but imagine this feeling at Michelin Star quality, that’s where you would find the Gymkhana Club. Originating from the elitist sporting and social clubs of colonial India, the GymKhana club is known world wide to serve some of the finest dishes in the Indian cuisine. With dishes for those that follow a strict dietary regime (yes vegans we are talking about you) to frivolous carnivores, the GymKhana club does not exclude. Dishes that must absolutely not be missed include; the classic Tandoori gobhi with green chilli raita; pig’s cheek vindaloo; and a duck-stuffed dosa served with a coconut chutney. The restaurant looks and feels reassuringly expensive and is designed to evoke the gentlemen’s clubs of the British Raj: think lacquered oak panels and burnished brass, a definitive top pick for a night out.

Honorable mention in the Indian cuisine: Dishoom, Kutir (first solo venture by chef Rohit Ghai and front-of-house Abhishake Sangwan, both previously at Gymkhana and Jamavar) and Gunpowder

For the Perfect Brunch, Hung Over or Not:

How many times can you say sexy fish without twisting your tongue. Much like it’s iconic name known all around the world, London’s Sexy fish brunch is one of the finest. It has everything. If you’re fanatic of the pan Asian cuisine, this is what a walk in heaven would look like, (actually no it’s better). The brunch, and the otherwise a la carte menu has small plates intended to share, sushi, of all kinds imaginable, pot stickers and a plethora of well put together beautiful dishes. A dish that absolutely must not be missed is the lobster main. It is to die for. The atmosphere is also simply wonderful, so sit back and relax while eating the best seafood around.

Honorable mention in the pan-asian cuisine: Uli, Inamo Soho and and Crazy Bear

For a Taste of True Italian Cooking:

For decades, the pistachio-green-and-liquorice façade of Lina Stores in Soho has been synonymous with selling the best Italian cured meats, cheeses and, above all, pasta in the capital. A self-taught cook, she sold her agriturismo business in Umbria to come and lead the new venture in London. London is all the luckier for it. Kick off with antipasti of prosciutto from Parma (not too wafer thin so it has a bit of bite), fat little aubergine polpette with sticky tomato sauce, and radicchio and puntarelle salad with anchovy dressing. Mascha plans to add more greens to the menu as a balance to all the carbs – although, let’s face it, carbs are what you are here for.

Honorable mention in Italian cuisine: Fucina, Fumo and Artusi

For the Perfect Dinner Date:

If there is one place I visit repeatedly when I’m London, without a doubt it would be Roka at Mayfair. Lucky enough to have 4 branches all over London, the place is a must see. The contemporary Japanese dishes, are world class focused. Renown for their delicate sashimi and grilled beef, each dish is consistently exquisite and ensures something for every taste. With the option to hand-pick a platter from over 15 types of sashimi; indulge in rock shrimp tempura with wasabi pea seasoning; revel in the stodgy luxury of the king crab hotpot; and, most importantly, save room for the dessert platter! Feat. ‘Chocolate Buddha’, of course.

Each location shares a fairly similar menu, with the exclusion of certain signature dishes, most notably, and rightly so, the bottomless brunch in Canary Wharf.

Roka makes for the best when you want to impress.

Honorable mention in the Japanese cuisine: Zuma, Nobu and Novokov

For the avid ‘Instagrammer’:

Fancy the best tasting tacos and the perfect picture to go with them? Santo Remedio is the perfect restaurant for a cute picture and yummy food.

Make sure to ensure you have a little time because Santo Remedio does not book in advance unless it is for a group of 8 or more. Luckily they have a ‘Tequila & Mezcal bar’ upstairs where you can sit comfortably until you are seated. Try not to drink too much Tequila though! The guacamole is an extra something special with a secret ingredient. Well… not so secret. It’s topped with deep fried grasshoppers! This classic Mexican restaurant is decently priced as well if you are looking to eat delicious food on more of a budget. Most of their dishes don’t go over £12 but I’m sure that you won’t be able to control yourself and buy much more than you need. Anyone’s eyes bigger than their stomach?

Honorable mentions for best Mexican food: Breddos Taqueria, Casa Morita, Daddy Donkey
