London Fashion Week is happening next week, from 13th – 17th September 2019, for five days of shows, celebrity spots and style inspiration. The streets of the capital will be flooded with fabulous street style, with the fashion crowd posing for the perfect Instagram story at every turn in their AW19 trend approved get-ups. AW19 is shaping up to be a varied melting pot of aesthetics with something to suit every style, from minimalistic pared back looks in beige-is-the-new-black tonals, to a more maximalist flavour of bright colours and statement accessories.
To let you know what to expect of AW19 ahead of Fashion Week keep on reading to get some style inspiration from street style, as well as designer and high street picks that will have you nailing the trends before the models even step foot onto the runway.
Check and plaid have always been an autumn season staple however designers this AW19 reinvented these classic patterns in bold bright colour combos or clashing patterns. From the brightly colored tartan of Marine Serre’s collection to Chanel’s graphic black and white houndstooth, check patterns were showing up all over the AW19 catwalks. This graphic print is a failsafe and can be found in almost everyone’s wardrobe making it one of the easier trends to follow this season.
Whether you choose a classic tweed check blazer chucked on over a simple tee and jeans or mix things up a bit with contrasting your checks and tartans for a bolder, punk-inspired look. We have picked some of our favourite checked items which we think best encompass the checked look we will be seeing much more of in the season ahead, from the ultimate check classic Burberry bag to some more colourful choices.
Even though summer is going away for another year, your colourful clothes don’t need to! Autumn time is often thought as a time for neutrals and a more muted colour palette however bright colours have been making an impact across AW19 collections. Notable mentions being Balenciaga, Marc Jacobs and Fendi whose models strutted down the runaway in bright shades of yolk yellow, hot pink, jade green and turquoise.
Whether you choose to go all out in a head-to-toe monochromatic look or embrace the trend in a more subtle way by adding a pop of colour to an outfit, this fun trend is something everyone can wear in their own way. Clashing colours and layering together classic shapes can make for a really sophisticated take on the trend. Coloured tailored separates are all the rage and we have chosen some statement coloured pieces perfect for nailing this trend.
Animal print is never far from the runway in one form or another, remaining a trend essential again this season being spotted within the catwalk collections of the likes of Givenchy, Michael Kors and Longchamp. Animal print was both seen as the focus of the looks when models walked the runway in snakeskin trench coat or simply featured as a statement ankle boot or printed bag.
Snakeskin is really shaping up to be the print of the season taking over the reign of zebra and cow prints that have dominated the warmer months and our favourite influencers style. We have chosen some of our favourite animal print picks to get you ready for the for the season ahead. Whether it’s a simple zebra tee to dress down the trend or some snakeskin trousers as an option to elevate any simple outfit. Throw on a classic animal print handbag to bring a little of the trend to any look.
Leather and faux leather established itself as one of the key trends to emerge from the AW19 catwalks. Found by way of trenches, blouses, skirts and dresses it has shown itself to be a versatile material which updates simple, classic silhouettes into something with a little more edge. Bringing both structure and suppleness, leather brings a range of versatility which designers embraced.
Seen in both muted colour palettes of camels, beiges and black but also bright shades of purple and red, leather-look materials are set to be a rising trend in the months to come. Within street style leather coats and trenches have really taken off, becoming a staple in fashion influencers wardrobes and our instagram feeds. We have found some of our favourite pieces available to add a little leather look to your wardrobe.
Sometimes it can be the smaller details that can make the biggest impact and really bring a look together. Never underestimate the power accessories hold over making or breaking an outfit. For AW19 it was clear nobody had overlooked the accessories and the motto less is more was completely ignored, instead designers opted for statement earrings, chunky chokers and bejewelled hair accessories. There was definitely no lack of glamour, with accessories dripping with rhinestones, colourful gemstones and pearls. Hair accessories have already proven to be a huge trend this year with padded headbands and diamanté barrettes popular among street style and Instagram fashionistas. Whether it be taking inspiration from renaissance and baroque stylings or nostalgic 90s vibes, accessories seem to be sticking around for AW19 and we couldn’t be happier. With party season in the not so distant future now, this trend is perfect and we have sought out some jewels to keep you on trend and sparkling throughout AW19.
